GIRLS reflects on the girlhood years and the beautiful, complex, and emotional journey of growing up. How has girlhood been represented? How is it remembered? And how does the idea of 'the girl' continue to shape visual culture and fashion?

GIRLS is about daughterhood, sisterhood and friendship. About boredom, rebellion, and the journey of coming of age. Through the eyes of the artists, designers, photographers and filmmakers in this publication, girlhood is not a theme, but a way of seeing - of remembering and imagining.

GIRLS verkent de schoonheid en complexiteit van girlhood en de emotionele reis naar volwassenheid. Hoe wordt het ‘meisje-zijn’ verbeeld? Hoe wordt het herinnerd? En hoe beïnvloedt ‘het meisje’ de beeldcultuur en mode? Centraal staan dochters, zussen en vriendschap, en de ervaringen van verveling, rebellie en opgroeien.

Met werk van verschillende kunstenaars uit diverse vakgebieden, zoals Veronique Branquinho, Louise Bourgeois, Sofia Coppola, Jenny Fax, Roni Horn, Jas Knight, Alice Neel, Meret Oppenheim, Frida Orupabo, Simone Rocha, en vele anderen.

Tekstbijdragen van onder anderen Elisa De Wyngaert (curator MoMu Antwerpen), Claire Marie Healy, Wim Mertens (conservator MoMu Antwerpen), Morna Laing en Alex Quicho. Interviews met onder meer Nancy Steiner (kostuumontwerper voor de films van Sofia Coppola), Leticia Valverdes en Lauren Greenfield.

Publicatie bij de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in MoMu – ModeMuseum Antwerpen van 27 september 2025 tot 1 februari 2026.
