Tekst achterflap

The particularity and uniqueness of this work lie without a doubt in the transcription of the Congolese rumba repertoire from the 1940s to the 1980s. The result of fifteen years of musical research and practice, Lindanda ('guitar' in Lingala) offers a fresh look at the origins of Congolese rumba through its pioneers, with an examination of Wendo Kolosoy, Kabasele, Jean Bosco, Dr. Nico Kasanda, and Luambo. The book talks about the guitarists and their contributions to Congolese music. Listeners and lovers of rumba see their story told through the tale of Maman Lisanga, whose radio in the streets of Leopoldville was instrumental in giving an entire generation a taste for music.

Pytshens Kambilo
A guitarist, singer, and writer-composer-interpreter born in Kinshasa, Zaïre in 1977, Pytshens Kambilo has recorded four solo albums (Kobanga Te ! 2007; Ndoa, 2008; To Loba Vérité, 2010; Silikoti, 2014) and collaborated with musicians and artists from all walks of life (Jean Goubald, Gaël Faye, Ray Lema, So Kalmery, Bebson de la Rue, Faustin Linyekula, Sammy Baloji, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Serge Kakudji, Freddy Massamba, Gaëlle Côte, Yves Mwamba). He teaches and transcribes Congolese music (staff notation and jazz tablature). In Kinshasa, he initiated Lindanda, a music festival celebrating instrumental musicians, particularly guitarists.
